The Philodendron ‘Birkin’ is a stunning tropical plant prized for its distinctive pinstriped foliage and elegant, compact growth habit. Its glossy, deep green leaves are beautifully decorated with fine, creamy white lines that radiate from the central vein, creating a striking pattern that makes every leaf unique.

A cultivated variety believed to have originated as a mutation of Philodendron ‘Rojo Congo’, the ‘Birkin’ is admired for its sophisticated appearance and relatively easy-care nature. New leaves often emerge with delicate white or pale green markings that become more pronounced as they mature, creating a beautiful contrast against the darker foliage. Its upright, self-heading growth habit makes it perfect for tabletops, shelves, desks or decorative indoor pots.

Occasionally, plants may produce leaves with unusual cream, burgundy or reddish markings, adding even more character to this fascinating variety. A beautiful addition to any indoor plant collection.

Care Tips

  • Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal for maintaining the distinctive white pinstriping. Avoid harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the foliage.

  • Watering: Allow the top few centimetres of soil to dry between waterings. Avoid keeping the roots constantly wet.

  • Soil: Use a chunky, well-draining aroid potting mix that provides good aeration around the roots.

  • Temperature: Thrives in warm conditions. Protect from cold draughts and Melbourne's winter chill.

  • Fertiliser: Feed lightly with a balanced fertiliser during spring and summer to encourage healthy growth and vibrant foliage.

  • Pet Friendly: No. Philodendrons contain insoluble calcium oxalate crystals and are toxic to cats and dogs if chewed or ingested.

Please Note: The distinctive white pinstriping naturally varies between individual plants and even between leaves on the same plant. Some leaves may display heavier cream markings, while others emerge predominantly green. The ‘Birkin’ can occasionally revert to darker green or reddish foliage due to its genetic instability.

A stylish and distinctive Philodendron, perfect for adding elegant tropical foliage and striking natural patterns to any indoor space.
